CD310-1 Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer Development Kit (hereinafter referred to as Cedar Development Kit) is one of the four main parts of Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer System Development Platform. On the one hand, it provides a hardware reference design for the customized Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer Project; on the other hand, it also plays the role of the build computer, providing powerful toolchains to build the application source code into high-quality ARM object code. Cedar Development Kit is pre-installed with a full CeMOS/Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer Operating System. Once you turn on the switch, you can operate it immediately. You can not only test the performance of the applications executing on the ARM processor, but also test the user interface, the flow of controls, the user experiences, and the look and feel.
Cedar Development Kit uses ARM Cortex-A8 1GHz processor, PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator, 512MB low-power mobile DDR SDRAM, 5-inch TFT LCD display, 4-wire resistive touch panel, 500GB hard disk drive, MicroSD card slot, 10/100M Ethernet connector, USB 2.0 connector, UART connector, push-buttons and LED indicators. The mechanical design of Cedar Development Kit uses open frame approach which is suitable for the product development environment.
Cedar Development Kit is pre-installed with a full CeMOS/Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer Operating System, including the boot loader, Linux kernel, the base operating system, package management system, X window system, GNOME desktop environment, graphic user interface library etc. CeMOS/Cedar is a full-featured operating system derived from Debian Gnu/Linux, and also provides the specialized features needed by industrial handheld computers.
Adopt 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 Application Processor
ARM Cortex-A8 application processor based on ARMv7 architecture, is famous for its low-power and high-performance feature. The application processor SoC itself can run at full speed of 1GHz while keeping the power consumption below 300mW, so it is very suitable for the mobile devices that demanding very low power consumption. The performance of ARM Cortex-A8 Application Processor is more than 2000 Dhrystone MIPS, therefore it is also capable of satisfying many mobile applications that demanding high-speed operations..
Built-in PowerVR SGX 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator
PowerVR SGX 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator is widely used in mobile devices, for the reason that its tile based architecture and universal scalable shader engine provide low-power and high-quality graphics processing ability. PowerVR SGX 2D/3D Graphics Accelerator supports all the main Graphics APIs, including OpenGL, OpenGLES, and OpenCL. Therefore, Cedar Development Kit supports all the applications developed based on these Graphics APIs.
Built-in 500GB Hard Disk Drive
During the application development process of Cedar Industrial Handheld Computers, building the source code into ARM object code, testing, debugging, and rebuilding iteratively are necessary. After the application has been released, the maintenance of the application not only includes patching and upgrading, but also involves building, testing, and debugging again and again. Cedar Development Kit is equipped with a 500GB hard disk drive, providing sufficient space for building, testing, and debugging the softwares iteratively. Most importantly, the high-speed access ability of the hard disk drive shortens the time of processing the development and maintenance iterations dramatically.
5-inch 480x800 24-bit TFT LCD Display
Cedar Development Kit is equipped with a 5-inch 480x800 24-bit TFT LCD display, for developing and testing the real-life and attractive user interface of the applications.
4-wire Resistive Touch Panel
Cedar Development Kit is equipped with a 4-wire resistive touch panel. On the one hand, it satisfies most of the demand for using touch-panel-enabled applications on the industrial handheld computers; on the other hand, it also helps to reduce the cost of the device.
Rich Peripheral Interfaces
Three USB Host 2.0 connectors, one USB OTG 2.0 connector, one 10/100M Ethernet connector, and one UART connector. These devices satisfy the demand for communication and networking. Furthermore, when the customized peripherals or sensors have not been developed or produced yet, we can use the on-the-shelf USB or UART interfaced peripherals or sensors as alternatives to develop and test the applications early.
8 LED Indicators and 8 Push-Buttons
Cedar Development Kit is equipped with 8 LED indicators and 8 push-buttons and able to emulate the indicators and push-buttons of the customized Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer.
Tact Power Switch
Like most of the embedded system application development processes, during developing and testing applications with Cedar Development Kit, turning on and off the power switch to reset the device frequently is inevitable. General power switch uses larger spring force to ensure the firmness of the contact point where the large current passes by. As a result, this kind of power switch works not so smoothly, and is prone to produce electrical sparks causing the contact point oxidized. Cedar Development Kit specially uses the tact switch to trigger the power control circuit, and the power control circuit turns on or off the P-MOS load switch. The P-MOS load switch turns on or off the power finally. The tact power switch ensures smooth flow of operations and the robustness of the power switch.
Cedar Development Kit provides the required hardware for developing applications of the Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer, and is pre-installed with the full-featured CeMOS/Cedar Industrial Handheld Computer Operating System. All you need to do is just connect a USB keyboard, a mouse and a network line to the Cedar Development Kit, turn on the tact power switch, and you can use it immediately. Unlike other development kits, there's no need to go to many places to buy the necessary hardware devices, install and test the low-level system programs, replenish software packages, resolve problems of compatibility, and waste lots of time and effort, you can just begin with the application development project directly.
